University of Gabès

Founded on August 4, 2003, the University of Gabès serves as the primary academic hub for South-Eastern Tunisia, extending its influence across the governorates of Gabès, Médenine, Tataouine, and Kébili. The institution is structured around 16 establishments, including an engineering school and a faculty of sciences—and hosts approximately 16,000 students, including a growing international community.
On the pedagogical front, the university offers a comprehensive range of programs, including 68 Bachelor’s degrees, 41 Master’s degrees, and 7 Doctorates. It maintains a strong technical focus through its 5 specialized engineering diplomas, all supported by a dedicated faculty of 1,200 researchers and 715 administrative and technical staff members.
Scientific research is a cornerstone of the university, organized into 10 areas of expertise ranging from engineering and renewable energy to the arts and humanities. With 20 laboratories, 4 research units, and 2 transdisciplinary doctoral schools, the institution has produced over 8,000 publications and 6 patents. It has gained international recognition for organizing major conferences on strategic global issues such as water management, green energy, and anthropology.
Furthermore, the University of Gabès is resolutely global in its outlook. As a member of the AUF and a partner in various European initiatives like Erasmus+ and TEMPUS, it maintains 60 bilateral cooperation agreements. Since 2012, it has also hosted a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) office, facilitating academic mobility and strengthening the international reputation of its students and researchers.
