AgriPV-Nexus present in the Open Day of the University of the Bundeswehr Munich

On 6 June 2026, the Bundeswehr opened ten locations across Germany for its open day — and the campus of the University of the Bundeswehr Munich (UniBw M) was one of them. Around 40,000 visitors came to gain insights into the armed forces, university life of the Bundeswehr cadets and officers, and ongoing research.

At the booth of the RISK Research Center, Gertrud Buchenrieder presented the AgriPV-Nexus project (PRIMA Call 2025, Section 2), which is coordinated by UniBw M. AgriPV-Nexus aims to accelerate a climate-smart agroecological transition in Mediterranean smallholder farming by combining agrivoltaics, digital tools, and participatory Living Labs in Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia, and Türkiye to strengthen resilience, soil health, water management, and sustainable rural livelihoods.

Visitors were particularly interested in why research on agroecology, agrivoltaics, and smallholder resilience matters at a university with a security-related profile. The answer is clear: climate change, water scarcity, soil degradation, and fragile rural livelihoods increasingly affect food systems, economic stability, and societal resilience. Strengthening climate-smart and resource-efficient farming is therefore not only an agricultural or environmental priority, but also a key dimension to improve the resilience of food systems as critical infrastructure.

The open day offered an excellent opportunity to engage with civil society, policy makers, and potential end users of emerging MVPs, and to show how applied research can contribute to climate change adaption and more resilient societies.
