AgriPV-Nexus embodies the ethos of innovation-driven transformation across Mediterranean farming systems through the following objectives:
01
Co-developing optimal combinations of agroecological practices
via agrivoltaic LLs: A catalyst for integrated climate-resilient small-scale farming in the Mediterranean.
- 4 LLs are operational with an agrivoltaic system.
- Farmer decision-support tool (DST) using a digital agroecological dashboard, digital twin, & e-LL.
- Agrivoltaics serve as a nature-tech solution facilitating farmers’ transition to agroecological practices.
02
Integrating agroecological practices with agrivoltaics
to demonstrate their climate mitigation, adaptation, and biodiversity co-benefits while advancing the resilience of Mediterranean farming.
- A coordinated RIA plan among the 4 LLs on complementary and local-specific agroecological practices to be tested, monitored, and refined.
- Agroecological practices considered, e.g., (i) mulching, (ii) “technological mulching”, (iii) composting, (iv) crop diversification/intercropping/rotation, (v) rain water. harvesting, (vi) carbon sequestration, (vii) reducing evaporation to improve microbial community.
03
Demonstrating and quantifying environmental benefits and soil organic carbon (SOC) stock
of integrated agroecological-agrivoltaic farming systems.
- Digital twin and e-LL contribute to the optimization of the nature-tech solutions in different environments.
- Simplified methodology for low-cost, scalable carbon MRV (Measuring, Reporting and Verification) pipeline.
04
Develop evidence-based, cross-sectoral policy recommendations
to support the scaling of agroecology, agrivoltaics, and carbon farming across the Mediterranean by aligning national strategies with the WEFE nexus and identifying regulatory, financial, and institutional enablers.
- Analysis of the drivers and barriers in the policy landscape for agroecology, agrivoltaics, and carbon farming.
- Implementing stakeholder-policy engagements.
